The 2020 Gulf States E-Z-GO Section Championship was held at Koasati Pines Golf Club on November 30-December 1, 2020 in Kinder, LA. It was originally scheduled at Koasati Pines Golf Club for September 21-22, then got moved to Money Hill Golf and Country Club, then rescheduled back to Koasati due to two of the major Gulf States hurricanes this Fall. The field was comprised of 32 players.

Greg Sonnier, PGA, of Lake Charles Country Club, LA, braved the bitterly cold and windy conditions to fire an opening round of two-under par (70) to take the first-round lead. One shot behind was Marie Gateley, PGA, of Baton Rouge Country Club, LA, (71) and Kyle Ramey, PGA, of Canebrake Country Club, MS, (72).

Sonnier made a charge on the back nine in Round 2 with four birdies and one eagle to shoot 66 and claim 1st place with a total of 136 (-8). With the win, Sonnier will earn an exemption into the 2021 PGA TOUR Sanderson Farms Championship.

Sonnier remarked, “Yesterday, it was tough positions for everybody. I controlled my ball really well into the wind, played tough. Today the conditions were a little bit more difficult. I played solid, didn’t have any bogeys.”

Reed Hughes, PGA, of Senatobia, MS, fired a final round 71 (-1) for a 2-day total of 144 (E) to claim the Senior Division by five shots over Jake Narro, PGA of Southeastern Louisiana University, who shot rounds of 75-74=149.
