Marksville, LA: The Gulf States PGA Jani-King Pro-Am was hosted at Tamahka Trails Golf Club on Monday, February 19, 2024. The field consisted of 13, 4-person teams in a shamble format with low gross/low net scoring (1 PGA Professional & 3 Amateurs). Team Champions included PGA Professional Benji Williams of Lion Hills Golf Club, and Amateurs Rusty Clark, Rusty Allgood, and Paul Wheeler with a score of 23 under par.
Coming in second place via a USGA scorecard playoff was Team Desormeaux with 23 under par. Congratulations to Brad Thornton, PGA of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for winning the Low PGA Professional with 1 under par, 70. In a post-round interview, Benji noted “It was a good test of golf and I tried to mainly keep it in play. The team came together really well. If someone was out on a hole, the others would help pick up the slack. My team putted really well and I holed out for eagle from around 30 yards on the first hole and I also had a 40 yard up and down from the fescue to seal a par which helped. We had a great time together and thank you to title sponsor Jani King and Tamahka Trails for hosting the event”.
The Gulf States PGA would like to thank Jani-King including Mike Biggs, Chance Enmon, JJ O’Neil, Jason Lambert, and Al Hebert. We would also like to thank the entire staff at Tamahka Trails Golf Club including PGA Head Golf Professional, Kevin Michaels, and Golf Course Superintendent, Chris Dacote, and the entire staff and membership. Our next event will be the Yamaha Senior/Junior Pro-Pro Championship at Timberton Golf Club. This will take place on March 4th. We wish you all the best of luck!
