Laurel, MS: The Gulf States PGA Senior Championship and Senior PGA Professional Championship Qualifying experienced high humidity and a blazing sun during both rounds on July 26-27th. Twenty-three Senior PGA members also participated in the Senior Section Meeting and a putting contest following Round 1 play.

Gulf States PGA Senior Champion, Jake Narro, PGA from Southeastern Louisiana University, also claimed low qualifier for the Senior PGA Professional Championship with a two-day score of 75-74–149. Blaine Patin, PGA from The Country Club of Louisiana, was the 2nd qualifier for the Professional Championship with a score of 76-74–150. Alternates for the Senior PGA Professional Championship include Reg Adams, PGA (73-78–151), Clay Weems, PGA (77-75–152), and Reed Hughes, PGA (75-77–152). Jerry Covich, PGA from Shell Landing Golf Club, took Super Senior honors with 73-74–147.

In a dual interview following the 2nd Round with Narro & Patin, Blaine expressed, “We enjoyed the golf course, the golf course was in great shape. It really was a great two days.” Jake added, “He just wondered what I did on the last hole. We didn’t really look at the scoreboard until the end. And I had a lead, and then I did everything I could to lose, but luckily I had a little cushion there at the end.”

Jerry later commented, “I came back again a couple weeks ago and did another practice round and felt a little better about myself. And I found something out on my practice round the day before the tournament started, in my swing, and I got to hit the ball better. And I putted it decent. But believe me I three-putted enough, and I made enough bogies, but I just tried to hang on. Nobody was gonna shoot low. You can see all the scores. This place you hang on by your fingertips. And I kept trying to stay in the game.”
