Mandeville, LA: The team of Allan Martel, PGA of Grand Bear Golf Course/David Lee, PGA of 1.50 Golf, has earned the honor of being named the 2023 PTE Golf Gulf States PGA Senior/Junior Pro-Pro Champions. The team finished with a score of thirteen-under, 59. This year’s event was held at Beau Chene Country Club on Monday, March 6th.

Sixty-two players gathered on a windy day for golf, forming thirty-one teams. The teams were formed by a PGA Professional 50 years of age and older and a PGA Professional 49 years of age and younger. The tournament format was a front-nine best ball and a back-nine scramble. Finishing in second with a score of twelve-under, 60, was the team of Jon Howell, PGA of Annandale Golf Club/Anthony Price, PGA.

In a dual interview after the round, Allan commented, “We played in this event at Diamondhead two years ago and then last year at Beaver Creek, making this our third year. We made a lot of putts, both of us. It wasn’t one-sided. David made the last two to win it. I made some early on, so that was the best part for sure.” David added, “I knew we were doing good, but I didn’t check the leaderboard. Allan said with three holes to go, ‘I think if we birdie out, we win.’ And we birdied out.”

The Gulf States PGA wishes to thank sponsors Matt Pollitt & Les Veres of PTE Golf for supporting this event.

The Section also wishes to thank the entire staff at Beau Chene Country Club including Fred Schroeder, PGA Head Golf Professional, Jeff McKeithen, Club Manager, and Jesse Stapler, Golf Course Superintendent.

We hope you’ll join us for our next tournament, the Gulf States PGA Stroke Play Series on March 20th at Canebrake Country Club.
