Canton, MS: The 2023 Gulf States E-Z-GO Section Championship was held at Deerfield Golf Club on September 18-19 in Canton, MS. The field was comprised of 37 players.

Reed Hughes, PGA of Senatobia, MS, played exceptionally well. He broke away from the rest of the field in the second round with 4-under-par to take first place (71-68–139). Greg Sonnier, PGA, of Lake Charles Country Club came in second with 71-72–143, followed by Kyle Ramey, PGA of Canebrake Country Club with 73-71–144.

With the win, Hughes will earn an exemption into the 2024 PGA TOUR Sanderson Farms Championship.

Reed remarked, “I made some putts that I hadn’t been making. I didn’t have the yips all day like I normally do. I hit the ball really well, I missed like two greens all day. It’s never over until it’s over!”

With his first-place finish, Reed Hughes also claimed the Senior Division by four shots over Jake Narro, PGA of Oak Knoll Country Club (73-72–145).
