The 2021 Gulf States E-Z-GO Section Championship was held at Annandale Golf Club on September 20-21, 2021 in Madison, MS. The field was comprised of 33 players.
Joseph Hanko, PGA, of Elm Lake Golf Course, played exceptionally well. He made a comeback in the second round with two-under par to take the first-place championship (73-70—143). Two strokes behind was Kyle Ramey, PGA, of Canebrake Country Club (70-75—145) followed by Greg Sonnier, PGA, of Lake Charles Country Club (75-72—147).
With the win, Hanko will earn an exemption into the 2022 PGA TOUR Sanderson Farms Championship.
Hanko remarked, “Yesterday, I chipped in for eagle. It was a good two shots, but then I bonus chipped in eagle. Didn’t really get away with a lot of putts these two days, I think I could have really had something special, and that makes me feel good too that there’s more in the bank. I can’t wait to get in the car and call my wife and folks.”
Reg Adams, PGA, of Huntington Park Golf Course, fired round of 73 & 77 for a 2-day total of 150 to claim the Senior Division by six shots over Reed Hughes, PGA of Senatobia, MS, who shot rounds of 83-73—156.
Reg later said, “There were a couple of shots yesterday, chipping and putting wise [that put me over the top]. I’ve been working hard on my game, trying to get more consistent tee to green, hitting fairways, etc…but I’ve still got some room for improvement. It was a good event.”
