Pass Christian, MS: The team of Robbie Gueringer, PGA OakWing Golf Club/Gavin Vegas, PGA Money Hill Golf and Country Club, has earned the honor of being named the 2021 Gulf States PGA Senior/Junior Pro-Pro Champions after a scorecard playoff. The team finished with a score of nine-under, 63. This year’s event was held at The Oaks Golf Club in Pass Christian, LA on Monday, March 1st.

Fifty-two players gathered on a humid, overcast day for golf, forming twenty-six teams. The teams were formed by a PGA Professional 50 years of age and older and a PGA Professional 49 years of age and younger. The tournament format was a front nine best ball and back nine scramble. Finishing in a tie for second were the teams of Scott Buntin, PGA Starkville Country Club/Zach Tate, PGA Starkville Country Club, and Reed Hughes, PGA Life Member Active/Kyle Ellis, PGA Country Club of Oxford.

Gavin Vegas commented, “Starting on hole 11 was a nice beginning to the scramble and allowed us to finish on a par 5. We made it through the first 12 holes at 9 under and then the rain hurt us a little. Finished with a birdie on 10 and we knew we would be close. Would like to thank Russ and his staff for having us at The Oaks and the GSPGA staff for a great event!”

The Gulf States PGA wishes to thank sponsor Kelly Welsh of Oakley for the Closest to the Hole prizes.

The Section also wishes to thank the entire staff at The Oaks Golf Club including Russ Bloom, PGA General Manager/Owner and Harold Degraw, Head Golf Course Superintendent.
