The 2022 Gulf States PGA Match Play Championship took on a very different look than in years past. A record field of 64 players was seeded based on the 2021 ROLEX Player of the Year points and 2021 Assistant Player of the Year points in February. The first four rounds of the Match Play took place at the participants’ choice course. The Semifinals & Finals were played at Carter Plantation on October 3rd.

Kyle Ramey, PGA from Canebrake Country Club was pitted against Drew Goff, PGA from Audubon Park Golf Course in the Semifinals. Greg Sonnier, PGA from Lake Charles Country Club competed against Reed Hughes, PGA of Senatobia, MS to move on to the finals. Drew Goff won on the 19th hole against Greg Sonnier.

Drew commented, “Once I got into the finals with Greg, it was pretty much back and forth the whole match. But then I birdied 17 to go one-up, I guess it was at that point I knew I had a chance. I played solid for the most part, hit my share of bad shots, as we all did, but made some putts at key times.”

The Gulf States PGA wishes to thank the entire staff and membership at Carter Plantation including Director of Golf Nick Gianatsis and General Manager Kim Loga. Also, a big thanks to our tournament sponsor Mark Danton of Winston Collection.

Our next event is the Gulf States PGA Pro-Am presented by Jani-King held at The Refuge Golf Course on October 25th.
