GULF STATES OPEN
Former LSU Tiger Alex Price Wins 2025 Gulf States Open in Dominant Fashion.
Marksville, LA: The 2025 Gulf States Open was held at Tamahka Trails GC on August 22nd-24th. The course played tough with thick rough and tricky green complexes, a true test of
championship-level golf. The tournament field consisted of 80 players made up of the top Professionals and Amateurs from Louisiana & Mississippi. After round two, there was a cut, and the top 52 players advanced to round three. Alex Price (p) of Baton Rouge, LA fired rounds of 68-63-68 for a three-day total of fourteen-under par, 199, to claim the Low Professional and the 2025 Gulf States Open title. Price’s second round included a whopping eight birdies while also being bogey-free. Michael
Arnaud (p) from New Orleans Country Club (67-68-69–204), came in solo second place and won the low PGA Professional. Matthew Lotz (a) of the University of New Orleans (72-67-68–207) was our low Amateur and finished solo 4th overall. Price, who is just beginning his professional career, lead the field in almost every major scoring category. His 17 total birdies and only 2 bogeys for the whole tournament ranked first among the field, propelling him to a dominating victory. The majority of Price’s scoring came from the par 4s, where he was a total of -9 under for the tournament. Special thanks to Ben Nelson, PGA, Benji Nelson, Seth King, PGA, Dean Leblanc, and Jake Owen of Ben Nelson Golf & Outdoor, as well as everyone at E-Z-GO, plus David Goldman of Flyway Hats, for their support and partnership with this tournament.
