The 2021 National Car Rental Gulf States Assistant PGA Professional Championship was held at Ellendale Country Club in Houma, LA, on August 16-17th. The field included PGA Assistant Professionals and Associates with the top 2 finishers qualifying for the 2021 National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship to be held at PGA Golf Club’s Wanamaker Course in Port St. Lucie, Florida on November 11-14th.

Dustin Diez, PGA, of Baton Rouge Country Club (72-73—145) birdied his last hole to advance into a playoff with Josh Carnes of Frenchman’s Bend Country Club (75-70—145). Diez birdied the first playoff hole to take the Championship honors.

Diez later admitted, “I struck the ball really well, just didn’t make any putts until that last one. I drained a nice long downhill putt that forced the playoff. So, I was pretty excited, and I did give out a nice little yell right there too that everybody heard.”

Alternates include: Greg Sonnier, PGA (Lake Charles Country Club, 73-75—148), Kyle Ellis (The Country Club of Oxford, 72-76—148), and Bobby Flanagan, PGA (Baton Rouge Country Club, 78-73—151).

The Gulf States PGA would like to thank the entire staff at Ellendale Country Club including the General Manager, Devin Thomas, PGA, Head Golf Professional, Greg Crain, PGA, and Golf Course Superintendent, Stacey Hudson. Special thanks to National Car Rental, Craig Gibson, PGA of Srixon/Cleveland Golf/Asics/XXIO, John Deere, Greg Sones of Greg Norman, and the PGA TOUR for sponsoring the Gulf States Assistant PGA Professional Championship.

We look forward to seeing everyone at our next tournament, the GSPGA Professional Championship at The University Club, August 30-31st.
