Choctaw, MS: The 2021 Mississippi PGA Trustmark Invitational was held at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club in Philadelphia, MS on July 16-18. The tournament field consisted of 86 players with the state’s top PGA Professionals and Amateurs.

Eddie Brescher, III (a) of Hattiesburg, MS, fired rounds of 71-70-69 for a three-day total of six-under par, 210, to claim the Low Amateur and the 2021 MS PGA Trustmark Invitational. Brescher’s final round included six birdies, which prevented a playoff against Cameron Clarke (a) of Pittsboro, MS (70-71-70–211).

Brescher said, “This week things started clicking a little bit better. Still had some loose shots here or there, but mentally things were a lot different this week. I was able to just be at peace with things if it was a bad shot. And that’s what helped me bounce back out there.”

Kyle Ellis (p), of Oxford, MS, shot a first round of even-par, 72, tying with Kyle Ramey (p) (Hattiesburg, MS) and Matt Brunetz (p) (Madison, MS) for the William E. “Sonny” Lawson Cup. The tie was broken with Ellis’ Round 2 score of 73. Ellis also claimed the Low PGA Professional (72-73-70–215).

Ellis later remarked, “It was one of those weeks where I had to grind a little bit. Wasn’t very comfortable for the most part with my golf swing, but played tough. I hung in there and made some good saves throughout the week.”

Peter Marks (a) (Jackson, MS), took home the title of Super Senior Champion with scores of 75, 72, 72, for a three-day total of three-over par, 219.

Marks confirmed, “I want to thank Trustmark for supporting this event for years. Also Trustmark has been a supporter of the community forever. I know back 25-30 years ago, they’ve been supporting the Southern Seniors in Jackson, MS, which is a sectional tennis tournament. They’re just great community people. I know a lot of the people who work there, and they are just super, super people.”
