Saucier, MS: Despite a rain delay on Monday that resulted in an overnight suspension of play, the Gulf States PGA Professional Championship held at Grand Bear Golf Club was a success! 26 members signed up to compete for 3 qualifying and 3 alternate spots.

After completing his 31 holes on Tuesday, Greg Sonnier, PGA from Lake Charles Country Club, (75-69–144) came in first for the fourth year in a row. Kyle Ramey, PGA from Canebrake Country Club, (71-74–145) came in second with one-over-par. Marshall Saxon, PGA from Sunkist Country Club, (73-73–146) took home third place.

Jake Narro, PGA from Southeastern Louisiana University (75-72–147) earned the first-place alternate spot. Blaine Patin, PGA from Country Club of Louisiana (75-73–148) and Drew Goff from Loyola University – New Orleans (73-75–148) took the other two alternate spots respectively after a playoff.

Many thanks to Cadillac, ROLEX, Club Car, Ladd’s, Golf Cars of Louisiana, Titleist, TaylorMade, FootJoy, Nike, PGA TOUR, and Golf Channel for sponsoring this event. We also appreciate all the support from General Manager, Bradley Kale, PGA, Head Golf Professional, Allan Martel, PGA, and Head Golf Course Superintendent, Alan Sullivan, as well as the rest of the food, beverage, and maintenance staff.

Following his play, Greg noted, “I didn’t think today was going to happen; either weather wise or playing wise. I got off to kind of a shaky start opening the morning round, but I was able to right the ship and start playing some solid golf after that. I played 5 holes yesterday, 31 today, kind of had a rough 12 and 13 today.”

We look forward to seeing all our professionals at our next event, the Gulf States PGA Pro-Am presented by Jani-King at Laurel Country Club on October 12th, 2021.
