METAIRIE, LA – Even-par proved to be the lucky number this week at the 2016 Ladd’s/Club Car MS PGA Chapter Championship as both Bob Wolcott, PGA of Tunica, MS, and Jerry Covich, PGA of Ocean Springs, MS, captured the Regular Division and Senior Division crowns, respectively, with even-par total scores of 142. Wolcott, PGA is the Director of Golf at Tunica National Golf Resort and Tennis, and Covich, PGA is the Head Golf Professional at Hickory Hill Country Club.
The Regular Division Runner-Up was Marshall Saxon, PGA of Biloxi, MS, with a total score of 2-over par (144) followed by Olly Thomson, PGA of Canton, MS, in third place with a total score of 3-over par (145). The Senior Division Runner-Ups were Kent Smith, PGA of Vicksburg, MS, and Rich Fulkerson, PGA of Laurel, MS, with a tied total score of nine-over par (151).
Beautiful skies and no rain for Round 2 sharply contrasted the dreary and muggy weather conditions of Round 1 making for an interesting mix of weather conditions for our players this week. Jerry Covich, PGA reflected on his round saying, “It was kind of strange to start off with a seven stroke lead today so I tried not to mess up and played [a little less] aggressive. The golf course was great, and we were fortunate that the weather turned out great. I am thankful to be sixty-eight years old and still playing and winning.” Bob Wolcott, PGA reflected on his round saying, “the big thing is [that] I putted well. It was a pleasure to play, and I was in a great mood. The tournament was well run and the course was in excellent condition. [We have] great sponsors, and it is an honor to be the [Regular Division] Champion.”
