Mississippi’s Jim Dorman Elected to National PGA Board of Directors

Laurel, Mississippi PGA Member to Represent Dixie, Gulf States and Tennessee PGA Sections as District 3 Director

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (Nov. 13, 2015) – Jim Dorman, PGA Head Professional at Laurel (Mississippi) Country Club, has joined the PGA Board of Directors as District 3 Director. He was elected to the Board today at the 99th PGA Annual Meeting at PGA National Resort and Spa, and will serve a three-year term representing the Dixie, Gulf States and Tennessee PGA Sections.

Dorman, a PGA member since 1992, and a Past President of the Gulf States PGA Section, was unanimously elected to serve as District 3 Director. A two-time recipient of the Gulf States PGA Golf Professional of the Year Award (2007 and 2009), Dorman is also the recipient of the 2011 Gulf States PGA Bill Strausbaugh Award for service to PGA Professionals within the Section.

“Being elected to the Board of Directors is beyond any of my dreams,” said Dorman. “I have always enjoyed the game, and the idea of serving people and my fellow members is exciting for me. To work at such a National level, on behalf of my District, is an honor I will never take lightly. I’m anxious to get to work to support the strategic plan of the Association.”

A native of North Carolina, Dorman has promoted the game of golf and served the golf community in Mississippi for 25 years. Dorman’s service to the Association includes tenure on the PGA Employment Committee from 2013-2014, Government Relations Committee from 2006-2012, and Scholarship Committee from 2014-present.

Jim and his wife, Mimi, a 5th grade English teacher, have been married for 25 years. They have two children, Paige Wise and Aaron; and one grandchild, Isaac.

The PGA Board of Directors is composed of the Association’s president, vice president, secretary, honorary president and 17 directors. The directors include representatives from each of the PGA’s 14 districts, two Independent Directors and a member of the PGA Tour. New District Directors are elected by their local PGA Sections.
