METAIRIE, LA. – The Mississippi PGA Professionals of the Gulf States Section PGA took on the Amateurs from the Mississippi Golf Association in the annual playing of the 2017 Cup Matches. This year’s matches were contested at Hattiesburg Country Club on Saturday, October 21st and Sunday, October 22nd.

Taking to the course for a full day of golf the Amateurs got off to a hot start and took a 4-2 lead after the morning four-ball matches. The MS PGA made a come back in the four-some matches in the afternoon and cut the deficit to one point with the MGA leading 6.5-5.5 after day one. With singles matches scheduled for Sunday the MS PGA was hoping to surpass the MGA and win back the Hershfelt Cup, but storms moved into Hattiesburg Sunday morning and Mother Nature prevented any shots from being hit. The matches were called off on Sunday and the MGA was declared the winner of the 2017 Cup Matches.

Thank you to the staff at Hattiesburg Country Club for hosting. Also, a huge thanks to Sam McCarroll of Cutter and Buck for providing uniforms as well as Kirk Johnson of Imperial for the headwear.
