CHRESTMAN, POCHE AND TRAHAN EARN VICTORY IN SECOND ANNUAL GSPGA BUSHNELL THREE-PLAYER SCRAMBLE

3-Pro Champions

METAIRIE, La. – The second annual Gulf States PGA Bushnell Three-Player Scramble presented by Yamaha named its champions for 2014 at the Great Southern Golf Club in Gulfport, Miss on Monday, April 7th.  Out of eleven teams totaling thirty-three players, this year’s winners included PGA Professionals Bobby Chrestman, Carl Poche and Craig Trahan.

Edging out their competition by a single stroke, PGA Golf Instructors Bobby Chrestman and Carl Poche of Bayou Oaks Golf Course along with PGA Director of Instruction Craig Trahan at the Big Easy Golf Academy joined forces to shoot 16-under-55.

Chrestman said the fun generated by the scramble format is what keeps him coming back for more, and winning is an added bonus.

“It was the second time we played together as a team,” said Chrestman.  “We just got on a roll early and stayed there!”

Poche said he contributed a few good wedge shots when they were most needed, but he depended on his teammates to help bring them to the top of the leaderboard.

“We managed to birdie all but two holes,” said Poche.  “I was quite surprised that we won. I know Craig Trahan was thoroughly thrilled to display the trophy in front of his new golf academy.”

“Overall, it was a blast,” added Poche.  “We were lucky enough to play with one of the sponsors which was very cool.”

In addition to playing at a golf course on the beach in beautiful weather, Trahan said the company makes this a standout event as well.

“It’s always a great day with friends,” said Trahan.  “We played well together as a team. We hit the right shots.  When you get sixteen birdies, it’s always a good thing.

“I’d like to see the event filled to the brim,” said Trahan, who said he expects the tournament to grow.  “It’s one of those events where you can play with two of your best friends and just enjoy the camaraderie. That’s why I’ve continued to play in this event.”

PGA Assistant Professional Leigh Brannan of Colonial Country Club’s Deerfield Course, PGA Assistant Professional Anthony Price of Eagle Ridge Golf Course and PGA General Manager Olly Thomson of the Country Club of Canton shared the runners-up position with Gray Plantation’s PGA Head Professional Tyler Kuhn, Kevin Kelly, PGA of Dick’s Sporting Goods in Flowood, Miss. and PGA General Manager Obie Agbasi of Boeuf River Country Club who all finished the day at 15-under-56.

The Gulf States PGA Section would like to thank Josh Lampley with Bushnell and Sun Mountain as well as Jeff Jungers with Yamaha for sponsoring this promising Section event. The Section also wishes to thank Gulf States PGA Honorary President and host PGA Head Professional David Lee along with the staff of Great Southern Golf Club for their assistance is making this event possible.
