METAIRIE, La. – Jabir Bilal’s first round 2-over par (74) was enough to hang onto the rain-shortened Golf Cars of LA/Club Car LPGA Chapter Championship. Bilal is the PGA Head Professional at Joseph Bartholomew GC in New Orleans. Craig Campo (OakWing GC) claimed Senior Division honors.
Phil Schmitt (Baton Rouge) finished runner-up with a 74, with Jake Narro (CC of LA) and Obie Agbasi (The Links at Muny) tied-3rd at 77.
Rain moved in mid-day of round two. After more than four hours of suspended play, the greatest of patience by participants and the University Club staff could not combat the conditions of the heavy downpours and lighting, forcing the Committee to reduce the event to an 18-hole Championship.
The Gulf States PGA would like to thank the PGA Director of Golf Jared Lebouef, Golf Course Superintendent Brandon Johnson and the complete staff at the University Club of Baton Rouge for the work and effort that went into making this event a great success. The Section would also like to send our sincerest thanks to Golf Cars of Louisiana/Club Car for their support of this event. Thank you to Buster Toms, Keith Hobgood, Rick Forbis and John Milford of GC of LA. Also, thanks to John Ellis and Cutter & Buck for sponsoring the Pro-Pro putting contest and Monday evening dinner/social. Finally, thanks to the PGA TOUR for their support of this event.
