Derek Sanders Wins 2014 Louisiana Chapter Championship

METAIRIE, La. – Gulf States PGA Member Derek Sanders claimed a narrow victory at the 2014 Golf Cars of Louisiana/Club Car Louisiana PGA Chapter Championship, edging out his nearest competitor by one shot. This year’s Chapter Championship was held on June 16-17 at Gray Plantation in Lake Charles, La.

Sanders’ had a strong start to the tournament shooting a first-round 66 and followed with a 72 on the second day of competition to finish at 6-under-138.  Phil Schmitt, PGA of Schmitty Golf LLC was close behind at 5-under-139 (68-71).

Of the 29 players, 6 participated in the Senior division with PGA Head Professional Wayne Fuselier of Chateau Golf & Country Club earning the win with a 71-73—144.

A Pro-Pro Best Ball competition during the second round produced winners PGA Director of Golf Eric Kaspar of Black Bear Golf Club & host PGA Head Professional Tyler Kuhn of Gray Plantation at 6-under-66.

PGA Head Professional Robbie Gueringer of Alexandria Golf & Country Club posted a second-round score of 72 to win the tournament’s Barbecue Flight.

A putting contest featuring Director of Golf Bill Baker of Chennault Park Golf Course & PGA General Manager Craig Campo of Oak Wing Golf Club would end in victory for Campo who sunk a 50’ putt worth $2500!
