Team Prieto Wins the Oliver Counce Six Pro Championship

METAIRIE, La. –  The combined efforts of six Gulf States PGA members and apprentices led by Andres Prieto, PGA head professional of Pelican Point Country Club in Gonzales, La., has earned the team a victory at the 2013 Gulf States PGA E-Z-GO Oliver Counce Six-Pro Championship.  One hundred and eight players took to the course at Money Hill Golf & Country Club in Abita Springs, La. on December 9th, determined to claim the title of this season-ending event.

The winners ended the tournament at 21-under-51, followed by a three-way tie for second at 19-under-53.  Prieto’s victorious team consisted of John Kocks, PGA of Stonebridge of New Orleans, Andrew Lanahan of University Club of Baton Rouge, Paul Norman of University Club of Baton Rouge, Beck Troutman of Fernwood Country Club and Jordan Dempsey of Country Club of Louisiana.

Prieto said the team experienced a couple key highlights, in addition to birdieing every hole.

“On 17 I hit a 230-yard 3-wood to three feet and we made eagle,” described Prieto.  “On 12, Beck drove the par-4 12th green and we made the putt for eagle.”

Longtime event sponsor Ben Nelson of Ben Nelson Golf & Utility Vehicles continues to ensure the success of this special Section event with his sponsorship.

“We appreciate everything he does for the event and for the Section,” said Prieto of Nelson’s commitment to the Section.  “We hope he continues to support the Gulf States going forward.”

This annual 18-hole event is played in a scramble format with teams consisting of six professionals.  The tournament is named after the late Oliver Counce who served as the Gulf States PGA Section’s first executive director.  Counce passed away in 2004.

The Gulf States Section PGA would like to thank Ben Nelson, Benji Nelson and Russ Pitts of Ben Nelson Golf & Utility Vehicles and E-Z-GO, as well as Ahead Golf, for their support and sponsorship of this great event.  In addition, thank you to PGA Director of Golf Stephen Christopher along with his staff at Money Hill Golf & Country Club for all of their help in making this event a success.
